Dr. Lateef Ademola Olatunji, a thoroughbred professional Accountant, Economist, Administrator, Planner, Counselor and Leader is a quintessential Builder and Refiner of human resources for national development.
Dr. Olatunji was one time bestowed a ‘double director’, ‘two star Director’; Director, School of Business and Management Studies and Director, Poly Consult. It was an opportunity and a rare privilege reserved for very few. He is a workaholic, and that is why the accolade ‘Aiki,’ ‘ise’, which literarily means hard work, is synonymous with his name. He is a motivator, an encourager who is readily available to assist staff and students in the Polytechnic to grow professionally. The number of Lecturers and students under his tutelage who had their ACA remain unbeatable.
He became the fourth substantive Rector of The Federal Polytechnic Offa in January 2017 and was soon appointed by the Federal Government as member of Governing Council of the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) in May, 2018.
He has a vision of an academic institution which will contribute positively and effectively to the social, economic and agricultural development of the Nigerian nation. Under his headship, he envisions a Federal Polytechnic Offa, where academic discipline and excellence flourishes. The Management under his leadership is presently set to deliver more conducive teaching and learning facilities to ensure excellent output both on the path of staff and students. Also, his tenure is set to collaborate with national and international development agencies, organizations, parastatals, embassies and academic institutions on academic research, sponsorships, scholarship for staff and related issues.
It is noteworthy that, since his assumption to office, a speedy transformation has taken place in punctuality, quality of work and service delivery.
Dr. Olatunji was born on 2nd December 1963 into the Olugbense rulling house of Offa in Offa Local Government Area, Kwara State. After his elementary school, he proceeded to the Anglican College of Commerce (ACC), Offa where he obtained his West African School Certificate (WASC) in Division one between 1973 and 1978.
Dr. Olatunji later proceeded to Kwara State College of Technology, Ilorin, now Kwara Polytechnic; where he obtained a Cambridge A-Level Certificate in the year 1978. He furthered his education to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria between 1981 and 1984 where he bagged a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics. He was at the University of Ilorin for his Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) between 2000 and 2002. He also had another MSc in Economics from 2004 to 2006 in the same institution. He pursued yet another Masters Degree in Research Method in Middlesex University, London between 2010 and 2011. At the same Middlesex University, London, United Kingdom, Dr. Olatunji bagged his Doctorate Degree (PhD) in Applied Economics in 2015.
He started his working career as a Lecturer in Auchi Polytechnic as a National Youth Service Corp member in1984. After which he was employed as an Assistant Accountant at Duraplast Nigeria Limited, Ikeja, Lagos between 1985 and 1989. He was also with IMEH UDONKIN, & Co and the ULTIMA Communication Lagos, from 1989 to 1992, and 1992 to 1996 respectively, as the Accountant.
Dr. Olatunji joined the service of the Federal Polytechnic Offa in November, 1996 and was appointed as Head of Financial Studies Department few months later. His wealth of knowledge and experience was essential in salvaging the then Department of Financial Studies which now birthed three Departments – Accountancy, Insurance and Banking and Finance. He became the pioneer Head of Accountancy Department between the year 1997 and 2000. He worked vigorously to see to the strong footing of the Department. He coordinated all activities of the Department and ensures that all programmes of the Department passed the NBTE and ICAN accreditation. He became a Chief Lecturer in year 2003 and was the Director, School of Business and Management Studies for two terms, first as appointed and second, elected, between year 2000 and 2006. From 2004 to 2005, he served as Director of Poly Consult during which he generated revenue within the Polytechnic to argument the government’s subvention, supervised and ensure the smooth running of the Polytechnic’s Guest houses.
This indefatigable genius was also Chairman, Sport Committee of the Polytechnic from 2009 to 2011 during which he coordinated staff and students for all major national and international tournaments such as; Nigeria Polytechnics Games (NIPOGA), West African Polytechnics Games (WAPOGA), Nigeria Polytechnics Senior Staff Games (NIPOSSGA), et al.
He has been a member of various professional bodies like; Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Nigeria Institute of Management and Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria. He is a Fellow (FCA) of ICAN; Member, Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM); Associate, Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (ACITN). Dr. Olatunji has over fifty developmental publications – thesis and books, seminar papers, journals and articles to his credit. For his hard work and dedication to duties, Dr. Olatunji was bestowed the Award of The Most Dedicated and Hardworking Academic Staff of the Polytechnic for 1996/1997 academic session. He was also granted an ETF Grants for MSc, Research Methods.
One very important striking feature of this man of excellence and magnanimity is the fact that he believes every good intention is achievable. He believes that with God, honesty, hard work and dedication to ones course in life, all things are possible. He doesn’t discriminate. He believes that no matter your race, gender, culture, language, religion or even, age, we are all friends and family.
Dr. Olatunji, fondly called, Mercema, is happily married to Princess Kemi Olatunji and blessed with children.
