Dr. Olarongbe Akanbi Afolabi

Deputy Rector AdministrationBorn on 5th January, 1961 in Shao, Moro Local Government Area, Kwara State, Dr. Afolabi after his elementary education, enrolled at the Government Secondary School, Malete, Kwara State between 1974 and 1979 for his secondary school education. He was at the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria for his Bachelor of Arts. (Hons) in English Literature between year 1980 – 1984 and proceeded to the University of Ilorin from 1988 – 1990 for his Masters of Arts (English Literature) in 1990.

He left the shores of Nigeria in 2015 to the University of Utara, Malaysia where he bagged a PhD in Linguistics.

He is a pioneer staff of the Polytechnic. He started as a Lecturer II in September 1992 and rose through the ranks to become a Chief Lecturer. He was Head of Department, of English and Communication from 1998 to 2005, and has been a member of the Management Advisory Committee since 2004.

He was the Chairman Academic Staff Union, Federal Polytechnic Offa chapter between 2001 – 2005; Director, School of General Studies from 2006 to 2010 and later became Dean, Special Duties from 2011–2015.

He has committedly served the Polytechnic in various committees such as Chairman Committee on Propose Mass Communication Department, Chairman, Committee on Certificate Screening (2000 – 2003); Chairman, Publication Committee Department of English and Communications (2004 – 2005); and Chairman, School Board of Studies, School of General Studies (2006 – 2015).

He is an author of several books among which are: The Agitators, Tomorrow on the Run, Nowhere to hide, and Smoke of Tinder.

Dr. Afolabi is a member, Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA); Member, Modern Languages Association (MLAN); and Member, National Association of Teachers of English in Colleges of Education and Polytechnics (NATECEP).

He is married and blessed with children.
